hear what you want.

have you ever been in conversation and the other half of it says something that you can not believe? you begin to line up your rebuttals like little green army men ready and willing to fire at any second. then, when it comes time to pull the trigger....your opponent tells you that you've misunderstood them....

WHAT??? I DIDN'T MISUNDERSTAND!!!! I HEARD YOU CLEARLY....AND I'M ABOUT TO PUMMEL YOU WITH A MASS OF GREEN ARMY MEN THAT WOULD HAVE THE TALIBAN SHAKING IN THEIR SANDALS.

but wait. before the tanks start rolling. maybe i should rethink my military strike. maybe....just maybe i did misunderstand. in this day and age of twitter, facebook, blogging, e-mail, texting....all this communication....and yet we still miss the message at times. and sometimes....we even make dumb choices as a response to our 'perceived understanding'. then we've got a double mess on our hands because we've potentially hurt a loved one based on bad info. dang!

so....my suggestion....(at least....what i told myself last night as i was apologizing to sharon)....SLOW DOWN! listen. carefully. write notes if you have to. don't start thinking of your response while the other is still talking.....you just might save yourself some trouble....not to mention the lives of those little green men.

take care....less of me.
