It's official!

In addition to catching AND riding 5 waves today (maybe 6, I can't remember), I got my first surf injury today....which I'm pretty sure makes me official....bonafide...the real deal. Today was so much fun! Surf was not nearly as good as last time, but I on the other hand, I did WAY better. I mean...I've NOT CAUGHT better waves then I caught today....but I did catch them....and that's what counts right? Can I get an amen people?

It was pretty cool. Almost towards the end i saw this dad taking his son out in the water, teaching him to surf, and I overheard the dad say, "just remember son, even a bad day surfing is better then a good day at work...remember that." No truer words have ever been said.

It's good to take time for yourself. To find something you enjoy doing that's just you....to refresh if you will. Read for 10 minutes on your porch...play golf...build lego's...go surfing. You know what I mean? I'm a pretty young guy....I've got four kids...I was married young....had kids young....I've spent most of my "out of school, out of my parents house" life being "responsible". Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining....I love my life. I love my family. I love how God has directed me through life thus far. But the fact is that over the years, when time or money or energy was low...usually the first thing that got cut was time for me. I want to be clear. I believe it's way better to serve others then yourself. There is nothing more fulfilling then doing stuff for other people....putting their needs first. But as my wonderful wife reminded me yesterday...sometimes your own internal tank gets empty....and when that happens, you need to fill it up. There's lots of ways that you can do that...and each of us need to be filled up in different areas. But an ounce of prevention is often worth a pound of cure....so take little moments for you. If you don't have a hobby that's only related to your enjoyment and nothing else...get one. You'll be glad you did. Take care....

YAY Jeramy!!! How fun! You're such a surfer!! And as usual, your blog was worth the wait! Thanks for the reminder that it's important to take care of ourselves... then we can better care for our family.

Derrick... you are one funny boy!

Years ago I made two lists. One list, was a list of traits my future husband HAD to have i.e being a man of God... and the other was a list of what would be nice, i.e. playing the guitar and singing. I was so amazed that God gave me a man that had everything on both lists! I'm a very blessed woman! Indeed!

I say that because I did leave surfer boy off the second list. It wasn't intentional... I just didn't put on my list. (To tell you the truth... list #2 was getting kinda long.) I've always loved surfer boys! I was just so excited about my drummer boy I forgot! My first crush was a surfer boy type! I always dressed Brady up to look like a surfer boy!

And look at me now! I got me a surfer boy!

See God gives us way more then what we need or even want! Sometimes we don't even see the gifts that He's given us!

Well said Jeramy and so true...I'm gonna have to give you an AMEN! Congrats on your first injury, isn't that like a surfer's rite of passage? Nothing like some good quality "you" time to refresh your spirit and soothe your soul...you're way ahead of the game just knowing how important that is for you- and your family.

My personal relax hobby is to gather a couple hundred of my friends twice a week to bore them, vent my frustrations, try-out my stand-up and get a decent cardio workout.

WOOHOO! Way to go surfer dude! I guess that "surfer" and "Dude" always go together. I loved the action shots that Sharon got of you in the water. Maybe you can bring your surfboard over and we can turn up the waterfall really high?:)
