Like you, I've been thinking about how much has changed - how "complicated" things have become these past 10+ years and what the "real" purpose of it all is. I too have wondered if it is an American thing: a if we're not pushing, we're not progressing mentality. Or, it is that I'm older and just more responsible so I actually take variables into consideration.
